International Speakers Series
In 2016, Maura Conway's article 'Determining the Role of the Internet in Violent Extremism and Terrorism: Six Suggestions for Progressing Research' appeared in Studies in Conflict & Terrorism. It's now the third most read article in the journal's 40-year history. That article, if not wholly explicitly, was certainly implicitly focused on so-called 'Islamic State's' online activity. In her presentation, she will re-work her 'Six Suggestions' with a focus on the role of the Net in right-wing extremism and terrorism. In addition to her calls for widening, comparing, deepening, up-scaling, outreaching, and gendering, she's also got three new suggestions regarding visuals, platforms, and ethics.
